POUSADA DO RIO MUTUM
LOCATION
The reference point for arrival at North Pantanal Norte is the city of Cuiabá, capital of the state of Mato Grosso. From Cuiabá airport to Pousada do Rio Mutum - Pantanal Lodge there is a 130 km distance, of which 50 km in highways and 80 km of dust roads. The trip takes 02h30min to 03h00min during drought periods; during flood periods it can take longer, depending on the conditions of the roads. Since the road is trans-Pantanal, one can enjoy the beautiful landscape and the various species of birds and small animals during the trip. There are two accesses to the Inn fro those arriving in private cars:
- Through the hills of São Vicente via BR 364, with an entrance at the roundabout Barão de Melgaço;
- Through Santo Antonio de Leverger, Barão de Melgaço direction.

The Pousada do Rio Mutum - Pantanal Lodge is located in the municipal district of Barão de Melgaço, one of the most beautiful regions of Mato Grosso´s Pantanal.

Even though the rhythm of drought and flooding periods have a great influence over life at the Pantanal, at the Pousada Mutum one can find, at any time of the year a great variety of landscapes with different ecosystems and a huge biodiversity.
With one of the world's largest and most varied ecosystems, the Pantanal is an unique destination that pleases even the most demanding traveler.
BIRDWATCHING
There are approximately 9,000 species of birds identified in the entire world and Brazil is one of the countries with the largest number of species: more than 1,780 species recorded in its territory. In order to give bird lovers the opportunity to know more about this fascinating world and to help with the environmental education process and the development of observation tourism, which we consider to be an ecologically correct step in the path to sustainable development, this section is exclusively dedicated to the birds of the Pantanal, their admirers and scholars. The contents that will be made available in the future are a result of field studies by Fabiano F. de Oliveira .
FISHING
The Pousada do Rio Mutum offers a structure for fishing with experienced pilots and safe boats.
At the Pantanal fishing is only permitted during the months of March through October. From November to February fishing is forbidden due to the Piracema.
Choosing the best period for fishing depends on the volume of water accumulated in the Pantanal during the rain season.
